Emily Doran Pottery
Looking back on her journey to becoming a successful potter, Emily has only one regret and that’s opting to study Art History at university instead of following her heart and going to Art School. As a child she had loved creative arts and excelled in the subject throughout school, studying Fine Art at A level with a focus on sculpture. A career in arts marketing followed but, by her late twenties, Emily found herself becoming increasingly disillusioned with the art world and conceptual art in particular.
Deciding to step off the career ladder and return to full-time study was an exciting and daunting prospect in equal measure, but Emily made the leap and enrolled on a ceramics course, specialising in making tableware. Happily, her love affair with throwing was instant and she hasn’t stopped since!
Following a year of study, Emily set herself up in a pottery studio in London and Emily Doran Pottery was born. Since then she has married and started a family whilst enjoying some notable career highlights, including seeing her work on the shelves at Liberty after answering their open call for British designers.
